Q01How much does a replacement umbrella canopy cost?
It depends on the diameter, the number of ribs and the fabric you choose. A made-to-measure canopy in solution-dyed acrylic costs a fraction of a comparable new umbrella. Send the rib count, the diameter and a couple of photos and we will price it quickly.
Q02How do I measure my umbrella for a replacement canopy?
Three things: count the ribs (each rib is one seam in the canopy), measure the diameter tip to tip with the umbrella open, and measure the pole diameter where the canopy mounts. Add photos of the canopy top and underside and that is normally all we need to quote.
Q03Can you repair a wooden umbrella frame, not just the canopy?
Yes. Broken arms and ribs can usually be repaired, and we can re-stain the frame so it looks close to new. This applies to Devon, Konturest and most overseas-made wood umbrellas.
Q04My umbrella blew over in a storm. Is it worth fixing?
Usually, yes. Wind damage is typically broken ribs and torn cloth at the rib pockets, both repairable. If the frame is beyond saving we will tell you straight, so you are not paying for a repair that will not last.
Q05Do you wash umbrella canopies?
Yes. We take the canopy off, wash the mould and dirt out and restitch any tired seams while it is off the frame, so it goes back up ready for the season.
Q06What fabric do you use for replacement canopies?
Solution-dyed acrylics like Planasol and Sunbrella. The colour goes right through the fibre so it does not bleach out, and it is UV-stabilised for New Zealand sun. Wide colour range, so you can keep the original look or change it.
Q07Can you recover cantilever and cafe umbrellas?
Yes. Cantilever, market and cafe umbrellas can all be recovered as long as the frame and mechanism are sound. We pattern the new canopy off your frame so the fit is right.
